Pet and money widgets: how to use them, data and privacy

How to use the pet and money widgets — gotcha day, pet age, care reminders, budget, subscriptions — where data is stored and how to hide amounts.

These widgets live in the Pets and Money categories of the library (Pets, Money) and are all free. Sample content (made-up pets, sample amounts) is labeled Sample; the label disappears once you enter your own.

  • Pet age is an estimate from a widely cited chart (a 1-year-old cat ≈ 15, 2 ≈ 24, then about +4 a year; dogs by size), and the widget says so.
  • In Care Reminders you set the schedule yourself — the defaults are samples. Follow your vet's advice.
  • The Days with My Pet animated icon sits next to a Notion page title and counts up every day.
  • Avatars are our own hand-drawn icons; no photos are needed or used.

Money widgets

WidgetWhere data livesIt shows
Budget & SpendingMy Data · Ledger tableSpent / budget this month, what's left, a daily allowance, categories; income and balance on the large size
Savings GoalWidget settings (you update the saved amount)A jar filling up, what's left, how much to save per month / week by your deadline
Subscription TrackerWidget settingsPer month, per year, charged this month, next billing date
Savings ChallengeMy Data · Counter table52-week / 365-day grid, amount saved, what to save next

Add an entry from the widget: the + on Budget & Spending opens a panel — choose expense or income, type the amount, pick a category and tap Save. You can also add entries in My Data, where you'll find monthly totals, category shares, editing and export.

In the Savings Challenge, step k means saving k units: with $1 per unit, 52 weeks adds up to $1,378. Tap Saved each time you put money aside.

None of these widgets connect to banks, payment or investment services — you record every amount yourself — and they give no investment advice.

Connect My Data first

The walk log, Budget & Spending and the Savings Challenge save entries to My Data. The first time, open the editor's Data section and create and connect a new table, or pick an existing one — see Data source. Until then the widget asks you to connect My Data.

Writes count toward your daily limit like everything else in My Data: 20 a day on a free account and 80 on Pro. See Limits & Pro.

Privacy: hide amounts

  • Ledger tables are private by default.
  • If you put a money widget on a page others can open (My Page, a public Notion page), turn on Hide amounts (percentages only) so it only shows how much of the budget is used, category shares and progress.
  • In Budget & Spending you can also turn off Allow adding entries in the widget. The widget carries a write-only key, so anyone with the embed link could in theory add entries (not read, edit or delete them). On public pages, turn it off and add entries in My Data instead.
