Focus Rooms — focus together with friends on one timer
Create a focus room, send friends the link, and focus together on one shared Pomodoro timer. Chat on breaks; messages go device to device and are never stored.
Focus Rooms is the "focus together" part of the Focus space: a few people join one room, watch the same timer and each work on their own thing. Quiet while focusing, a quick chat on the break — and you can see at a glance who's focusing, who stepped away and how long everyone has focused today.
Create a room
- Open Focus and tap the Focus Rooms icon (two people) in the top-right corner, or go straight to
/focus/rooms. You need to be signed in. - Under New room, pick a rhythm: 25 + 5, 50 + 10, 45 + 15, or Custom (5–120 minutes of focus, 1–60 minutes of break).
- Mute chat while focusing is on by default: no chatting during focus, catch up on the break.
- Tap Create and enter. You can create up to 10 rooms a day.
Invite friends
In the room, tap Invite to Copy link, Share, or let a friend scan the QR code with their phone. Rooms aren't public and there's no lobby: only people with the link can come in, and they need to sign in. A room holds up to 12 people.
Focus together
- The host runs the timer: when the host taps Start, Pause, Resume, Skip this phase or Reset, everyone's timer changes at once. People who join late are in sync the moment they arrive, and the timer keeps going even if the host goes offline.
- People cards: avatar, name, status (Focusing / On a break / Away) and minutes focused today. Tick Show what I'm working on to let the room see what you're doing (off by default).
- Step away: others see you're away, and that time doesn't count toward your focus minutes.
- Cheers: the six emoji above the chat box (👏 💪 🔥 ☕ 🌱 🎉) — tap one and everyone sees it.
- Chat: open on breaks (and during focus if the host turns off muting). Messages disappear: they only exist in this room, vanish when you leave and are never stored anywhere.
- Counts toward your focus time: at the end of each focus session, the minutes you were actually there are logged to your own Focus space, just like a normal session (stats, achievements and focus widgets).
Grow together
In the middle of the room is a forest clearing with a tree everyone grows together: it grows one stage for every focus session you finish together (seed → sprout → sapling → young tree → in bloom). Focusing grows energy — tap your energy ball to collect it when a session ends — and cheering a teammate gives them a little energy. Spend it on virtual trees in My forest.
What the host can do
Open Room settings in the top bar:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Change rhythm | New focus / break minutes; the timer starts over |
| Mute chat while focusing | No chatting during focus |
| Lock room | No one new can join; people who were here before can come back |
| Close room | Everyone is removed and the room can't be entered again |
In a person's … menu, Remove from room keeps them out of this room for good.
Report and block
From someone's … menu:
- Block: you won't see each other in any room (they won't appear in the list and no connection is made). Unblock from Blocked people on the rooms page.
- Report: pick a reason and optionally tick their messages to attach. Because messages never pass through our servers, only the messages you tick are sent to us for review.
Can't connect?
If a card says Can't connect directly, or you see "Your network can't connect directly. Try another network, like your phone's hotspot.", your network and theirs can't reach each other directly (common on office / school networks and some mobile networks). This version only uses direct connections (STUN) with no relay server, so switching networks — for example to your phone's hotspot — usually fixes it.
Privacy details
- Chat, status, today's minutes, "working on" and cheers travel device to device over WebRTC data channels (DTLS-encrypted); our servers never receive them.
- To set up the connection our server relays connection details (which include IP addresses), so people in the same room can see each other's IP address. Your browser also contacts public STUN servers to discover its public address.
- A room only stores its host, rhythm, locked / muted settings, removed accounts, and the names and random IDs of people who joined (to verify reports). It's deleted when closed or after 7 days without anyone joining. See the Privacy Policy.
On your phone and in the extension
- Android app: works the same in the app's Focus tab — open an invite link to go straight to the room.
- Browser extension: Your room in the popup takes you back to the room you were last in.
