Read a Notion database in widgets (flashcards, mood, streaks)
Flashcards, Progress, Mood and Streak widgets can read a Notion database (read-only): connecting, matching properties, sync timing, Free vs Pro.
Besides Notion Charts, these widgets can use a Notion database as their data source. Widgets only read your data and never change Notion.
| Widget | Properties to match | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Flashcards | Front (required: text, title or select), Back | One card per row |
| Progress Tracker | Done (checkbox or status) or Number | Rows that are done, or the sum of the number |
| Mood Tracker | Date, Mood (a 1–5 number or an option) | Your mood each day (averaged if a day has several rows) |
| Streak Counter | Date, optional Done (checkbox) | How many days in a row have a row |
Connect
- In the widget editor's Data source, choose Notion database (read-only).
- The first time, click Connect Notion and tick the databases to share on Notion's page. It's the same connection as Notion Charts, so you only do this once.
- Pick a database, match each item to a property (we suggest one; you can change it) and click Connect this database.
- The preview now shows your real data. Copy the embed link and paste it into Notion.
How often it syncs
| Item | Free | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Widgets reading Notion | 3 | 50 |
| Automatic sync | Every 60 min | Every 15 min |
| Manual “Sync now” per day | 3 | 20 |
| Rows read per widget | 200 | 1,000 |
Automatic sync only happens when someone opens the widget, and it shares the daily refresh allowance with Notion Charts. If Notion is unavailable, the widget shows the last data it read successfully. Above the row limit only the first rows are read.
FAQ
- My database isn't listed: it wasn't selected when you authorized. Click Missing one? Add more databases below the database list, authorize again and select it.
- “Wrong type” message: for example, Mood needs a number or select property and Date needs a date property. Formula and rollup properties are read by their actual values.
- Disconnect: click Disconnect in Data source. The widget goes back to its unconnected state and your Notion data is untouched.
